Lenses Questions!

1. What are the limitations of a focal plane shutter? When shooting with long exposures small amounts of vibration can occur.
There are limitations for fast shutter speeds beyond 1/500 with flash synchronization as the shutter will close before the image is fully captured, rendering the image with unwanted dark patches.

2. What is the definition of depth of field?

Depth of field is the various objects within an exposed scene that apear sharp or out of focus.

3. How is depth of field increased?

When the aperture size is decreased.

4. Why is the automatic diaphragm fully open until the shutter release is pressed?

As the sensor requires full exposure of the light and scene through the view finder.
  5. What size, in millimetres, is a full frame sensor?
24x36mm

6. What is the crop factor of your camera’s sensor?

Canon 1100D, 1:3.5-5.6

7. What are circles of confusion?

The points in a scene that are in focus before and after the focal plane.

8. If a 50mm lens has an aperture diameter of 25mm what f stop is it set at?
F2.

9. For the following lens types, write a description of each using no more than 10 words for each lens.

• Wide angle

Wider angle of view, short focal length. • Zoom
Allows more range of focal lenth.

• Long focusAllows focus to reach distant subjects.

• Telephoto Longer focal length than the size of the lens suggests.

• Retro focus

Shorter focal length than the size of then lens suggests.

• Quasi fish eye
Distorted angle of view, not a true fish eye.

• Fish eye

Distorted angle of view, is limited to the circular image through view finder.

• Catadioptric

Small lens that uses mirrors to create long focus.

• Macro

Allows closer than normal focus.

• Teleconverter

 Adds addition focal length.

• Supplementary or close up lens

allows the camera to focus more closely.

• PC or tilt shift lens
Allows you to alter how the image is perceived through tilting and shifting.
